The Baby Swallows under the Bridge

Imag0135

So Arthur and I were walking along the levee on our way to dinner tonight, and underneath the Laurel Street Bridge, just as the sun was setting there were swarms of swallows. There were about a hundred swallow nests, in sets of 6-10 along the bottom edge of the bridge over the San Lorenzo River. The adult swallows were swooping in and out feeding their babies which were sticking little mouths out from the nests and crying for food. We see the same birds under the bridge every year, it’s become an annual landmark.

  1. The holes are on the bottoms, I have no idea how the babies are arranged inside the nests. Great question!
